Description

Altrad Belle SF460 Soil Plate Compactor

The SF460 is a specialist forward plate designed for cohesive soils such as clay, where a conventional high-frequency plate tends to bog down or stick. It pairs a Honda GX160 petrol engine with a low-frequency vibration unit tuned for heavy, sticky ground.

Low-Frequency Vibration The SF460 runs at 90Hz, a lower frequency than a typical granular plate, combined with 18kN of centrifugal force. This suits cohesive material, helping the plate keep moving and compacting on ground where other plates get stuck.

Honda GX160 Engine Power comes from a Honda GX160 petrol engine producing 5.5Hp/4.1kW, a common choice in contractor and hire fleets with wide parts and service support. The GX160 gives the SF460 plenty of power to keep the vibration unit working steadily in heavy material.

Plate and Performance The 460mm x 535mm plate gives a static pressure of 313kg/mΒ² and a travel speed of up to 24 metres per minute. At 77kg, the SF460 is lighter than many heavy-duty plates of a similar width, so it is still manageable to load and move around site. The operating height of 895mm gives a comfortable handle position for most operators, and the machine folds to 950mm long for storage and transport.

Applications The SF460 is intended for:

  • Clay and cohesive soils: compacting fill and formation where granular plates struggle
  • Trench backfill: consolidating excavated cohesive material returned to trenches
  • Landscaping: firming heavy topsoil and clay ground before paving or turfing
  • Groundworks: preparing formation levels on sites with heavy soil conditions

Choosing a Soil Plate If most of your work is on Type 1, sand or other granular materials, a standard PCX or PCLX plate is the better choice. The SF460 is the machine to choose when the ground is sticky, wet or clay-based and a standard plate is not getting the job done.
