Overview

The STIHL TSA 500 is a 14″ (350mm) cordless cut-off machine engineered for professional use across construction, hardscaping, and pipework applications. As part of the STIHL AP System, it runs on dual AP batteries via a 72V motor, delivering cutting performance directly comparable to the petrol-powered STIHL TS 500i — without the emissions, noise, or warm-up time. Suitable materials include steel, brick, concrete, paving stone, natural stone, reinforced concrete, and rebar.

Cutting Performance

With a mechanical output of up to 4.2 kW, the TSA 500 matches the power of petrol equivalents while benefiting from all the advantages of battery operation. The absence of engine vibrations enables an exceptionally narrow cutting kerf, resulting in greater precision and accuracy with every cut. The maximum cutting depth is 4.9″ (125mm).

The machine is supplied as standard with a high-performance 14″ / 350mm composite resin cutting wheel. For longer-duration or more intensive cutting tasks, STIHL recommends upgrading to the D-SB90 diamond cutting wheel for extended service life and superior results.

Ergonomics & Usability

The TSA 500 is designed with operator comfort at the forefront. Its handle arrangement, combined with the strategic placement of the battery and motor, ensures a well-balanced tool that significantly reduces fatigue during extended use. The adjustable STIHL magnesium guard improves working conditions, reduces operator strain, and features an integrated water guide that removes debris in a targeted manner whilst maintaining a clear view of the cutting wheel throughout operation.

A built-in electronic interface on the control handle provides real-time machine information, including battery charge status and the currently selected working mode (Speed Levels 1 to 3). The TSA 500 also features integrated STIHL Connected functionality for additional monitoring and management capabilities.

Motor & Protection

The TSA 500 is fitted with a powerful EC (electronic commutation) motor that operates with near-zero mechanical wear, delivering smooth, quiet, and consistent performance from the first cut to the last — regardless of battery charge level. A STIHL magnetic filter draws cooling air through a series of magnets, shielding the motor and internal components from metal dust and particles. These magnets are simple to remove for fast, straightforward cleaning, ensuring long-term reliability and an extended service life.

Fast-Stop Brake & Energy Recovery

The TSA 500 is equipped with a fast-stop brake system that brings the cutting wheel to a complete standstill in under 4 seconds after the trigger is released. This system simultaneously recuperates kinetic energy back into the battery, extending working time on each charge — a key efficiency benefit for high-volume cutting tasks.

Battery Compatibility & Working Time

For maximum performance, the TSA 500 must be used with the STIHL AP 500 S battery. Compatibility with AP 200 S or AP 300 S batteries is possible, though a reduction in performance should be expected. On a full charge with the AP 500 S, the machine provides a working time of 20 to 40 minutes depending on application and material.
